Interview John Urry
“The systems that develop are not those that are planned”
John Urry is Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Lancaster University, United Kingdom. He has published on many topics, such as tourism, automobility, climate change and energy and society. His latest book is Offshoring. In this interview, John Urry is asked his views on mobility and accessibility and how these two concepts might obtain different meanings in the future. Will physical accessibility be exchanged for digital accessibility? If so, how will this happen and how can academics and practitioners deal with it? Or even encourage it? The interview was held at Schiphol Airport, providing a glimpse of the ‘mobile life’ of John Urry himself.
